7-Step Yard Fertilization Program
Service Benefits:
Lawns that are regularly fertilized are proven to be thicker, greener, and more resilient to daily use, droughts, and pests
Our 7- Step Yard Fertilization Program
Professional fertilization provides many benefits to the overall look and health of your lawn. Fertilizer provides essential nutrients such as nitrogen to plants to help them grow. Depending on what kind of grass you have there are three nutrients crucial to your lawn’s health: Nitrogen, Potassium, and Phosphorus. Many, if not all lawns in our area are either warm or cool season grasses. Our lawn care professionals will determine which type of grass your lawn has, and then be able to recommend the best 7-Step Fertilization Program that best fits your lawns needs. Lawns that are regularly fertilized are proven to be thicker, greener, and more resilient to daily use such as walking and playing. Healthier lawns also have less bald spots and are more resistant to drought and pests. Along with our fertilization treatments, we will also apply weed control to ensure your lawn stays weed free. Dempster Brothers Lawn Care and Landscaping lawn fertilization services can help your yard become healthier and more beautiful.
WHAT DOES OUR 7-STEP FERTILIZATION PROGRAM LOOK LIKE?
1st Round: Applied 1/5-2/9
For Fescue Turf The Following Will Be Applied:
1/2 lbs./ 1000 of a slow release fertilizer will be applied as the base for the early lawn feeding season feeding for up to 30-45 days. Supplementing will be used as needed throughout early spring to ensure your lawn is growing consistently. Fertilizing your lawn at this time will help to prevent the yellowing of your turf that the cooler spring temperatures cause.
A weed control spray will also be applied to all turf areas to control winter weeds that are common during this particular time of year. Remember that winter weeds are common due to the fact that we can't control weeds and grow grass seed in the fall months. The newer the turf, the more weeds that will be present. The treatment that is applied during this visit and the following visit will control weed growth. If we have cold temperatures during the days that follow this treatment, it will work slowly so do not worry if you do not see an immediate weed free lawn. On the following visit, we will take care of any weeds that are remaining as the temperatures will be warmer.
For Bermuda/Zoysia Turf The Following Will Be Applied:
Bermuda and Zoysia turf are dormant during this visit, so the turf will not be fed at this time. This is an excellent time and opportunity to clean out grassy and broadleaf weeds from the turf. At this visit we will apply weed control to all turf areas. With Bermuda and Zoysia turf we are able to apply pre-emergent control in the fall so the warm-season turf will have fewer weeds. Of course nothing is 100% so at this visit we will catch any weeds breaking through the pre-emergent weed control products that were applied in the fall.
Watering Instructions: Temperatures below 70 Degrees: (Typically November - March)
Typically we do not recommend using any irrigation at this time. Mother Nature provides enough water to our area this time of year and the soil will hold the water and give the roots of your turf the water that it needs. If you over water this time of year you will be wasting water and money. Not only this, you will be encouraging poor root development, which will be a bad situation when the temperatures begin to get hot.
2nd Round: Applied 2/10-3/22
If You Have Fescue Turf The Following Will Be Applied:
1 lbs./1000 of a slow release fertilizer will be applied as the base for the early growing season feeding for up to 60 days. Supplementing will be done throughout the summer to ensure your turf is growing consistently.
Pre-emergents will kill any weed seeds in the soil from the previous season. In area's soil, Crabgrass in the most common weed that is prevented. This weed control will last 8-10 weeks. If we happen to have consistent rainfall, this time frame will be shortened.
A herbicide will be applied to all turf and any winter weeds that are present at this visit for weed control.

3rd Round: Applied 3/22-4/30
If You Have Fescue Turf The Following Will Be Applied:
1/2 lbs./1000 of a slow release fertilizer will be applied at this visit. This will feed the turf for 45-60 days and contain low nitrogen, but will feed the turf as the stressful season enters.
Soil Conditioner (RGS): A combination of two organic products, Humic Acid and Sea Kelp will be applied. These two products increase plant rooting and decrease stress, assisting in the green-up, extends our fertilizer release time, and adds oxygen to the soil's profile. This in turn aids in the spring green-up and extend our nitrogen release while adding oxygen to the soil's profile.
Soil Conditioner (Air 8): A liquid aeration will also be applied this visit. This naturally aerates the soil by creating microfractures in the soil, which allows for more water, air and nutrients to get into the soil's profile.
All weeds are spot sprayed with a herbicide to control any weed growth that is present.
If You Have Bermuda/Zoysia Turf The Following Will Be Applied:
1lbs./1000 of a granular slow release fertilizer will be applied during this visit. This is the base for the early growing season in the spring and will feed the turf consistently for up to 60 days. Supplementing throughout the summer will be done to ensure your turf is growing consistently.
All weeds are spot sprayed with a herbicide to control any weed growth that is present.
Watering Instructions: Temperatures 70-80 Degrees With Normal Rainfall: (April)
Water 2-3 times per week. If there is a good hard rainfall, the rain can substitute one watering at this time. The moisture of the soil will determine your watering schedule at this time. Do not overwater your turf at this time as it can lead to shallow roots that will burn during the hot summer temperatures.
Rotating Irrigation Heads: 25 minutes per zone
Fixed Irrigation Heads: 15 minutes per zone
Hand Watering/Hose/Sprinkler System: 25-30 minutes per section
4th Round: Applied 5/1-6/9
If You Have Fescue Turf The Following Will Be Applied In Late Spring:
We will be applying a 2nd round of pre-emergent weed control to your Fescue turf. The 1st round was applied 8-10 weeks earlier and the timing of this application protects your lawn from weeds that will germinate over the next 8-10 weeks.
We will lightly feed your lawn and apply a product to help naturally break down the thatch layer in your lawn. Humic Acid will be added to increase the root development, chlorophyll content, nutrient uptake, improve soil structure and water retention.
An herbicide will be spot applied to control any weeds present.
If You Have Bermuda/Zoysia Turf The Following Will Be Applied In Late Spring:
1/2 lbs. of a granular slow release fertilizer will be applied.
Pre-emergents will kill any weed seeds in the soil from the previous season. Crabgrass is the most common weed that is prevented in the soil in our area. This weed control will last 8-10 weeks. If we have consistent rainfall this window will shorten that time frame.
An herbicide will be spot applied to control any weeds present.
Watering Instructions: Temperatures Above 85 Degrees With Normal Rainfall: (Late May - Early September)
Water every other day and try to avoid a daily watered lawn. Too much watering can cause the turf roots to not be deep enough, causing the turf to stress quickly when the temperature gets above 90 degrees. On the other hand, not watering consistently and skipping a week of watering can be detrimental to your turf.
Rotating Irrigation Heads: 25 minutes per zone
Fixed Irrigation Heads: 15 minutes per zone.
Hand Watering/Hose/Sprinkler System: 25-30 minutes per section
5th Round: Applied 6/10-7/19
If You Have Fescue Turf The Following Will Be Applied:
Iron will be applied to all turf areas. Iron relieves stress and gives nutrients to the turf during the heat and drought conditions that are typically seen in our area this time of year.
An herbicide will be spot applied to control any weeds present.
If You Have Bermuda/Zoysia Turf The Following Will Be Applied:
1/2 lbs. of a granular slow release fertilizer (26-0-0) is applied during this visit.
Soil Conditioner (Dethatch): We will apply a combination of Humic Acids, molasses and yeast blends that will compost the thatch layer at the surface of the soil.
An herbicide will be spot applied to control any weeds present.

A 8-10-20 granular slow release fertilizer will be applied to all turf areas during this visit. This blend is designed to help your lawn handle the stress of summer heat, aid in root development, green color and the additional phosphorus and potassium will be beneficial for the fall seeding that is coming up.
An herbicide will be spot applied to control any weeds present.
If You Have Bermuda/Zoysia Turf The Following Will Be Applied:
A controlled release liquid nitrogen and micro nutrients beneficial for the soil will be applied during this visit.
The first fall pre-emergent will be applied to all turf areas for weed control to ensure the winter weeds are prevented as the cooler weather gets closer.

If You Have Fescue Turf The Following Will Be Applied:
A 24-5-11 granular fertilizer will be applied to all turf areas at this visit. This blend is develop to help your lawn have a deep, healthy root system and added green color. The additional potassium helps the turf avoid damage from the cold temperatures.
No herbicides are applied at this time to your lawn. We know weeds may be present, however, new seed that was applied in the fall needs more time to germinate and develop before it can handle a herbicide application.
If You Have Bermuda/Zoysia Turf The Following Will Be Applied:
The second round of fall pre-emergent is applied to all turf areas for weed control to ensure winter weeds are prevented as the cooler weather gets closer.

Riley and his crew were amazing. We had a yard that I was so frustrated with. Riley came over and spent 45 mins with me talking about what we could do. He was patient with me as I changed my mind a few times. He worked within my budget which was great. He also didn't compromise his work while he did that, which I totally respect. The crew that came over was really pleasant to work with. They were approachable and respectful. They were here a total of 2 full days. They left my yard clean, no trash to be found anywhere. They cleaned up all the mud and dirt afterwards. I am very happy with them and plan to call to schedule routine maintenance for the year. I can't wait to see these plants become more mature as they fill out.
